Vol. Poor No. Warriors

Amazing May – I can hear the flowers beginning to sing snappy tunes outside my windows. Well, they are baby tunes, of course, another month before they’re more full-throated. The mess of iceberg roses up top on the piazza, yes, I heard the whisperings, they’re having meetings as to whether or not to put forth their bounty this year. Are we worthy? Will we admire them enough?

The wisteria outside the front door doesn’t seem particularly enthusiastic because it doesn’t get to show off its gorgeous blooms to all the Amazon Prime delivery people until next year. Ah, but the Hydrangea That Ate Cleveland, believe me, it’s a veritable opera, Rigoletto its favorite, is so happy and proud, grows so big you have to lean way over, nearly off the path, the pink blooms are so huge and come to think of it, they might look hungry, but then again, singing opera takes lots of energy and burns calories.

Presents galore bought and waiting to be wrapped for all thirteen birthdays at the annual family gathering at the OBX next month –- can you believe it’s been a year already? Amazing. It’s fun wrapping all the presents since I don’t remember what I bought during the year. Is that pathetic? Or, if you’re nice, will you say it’s something like refreshing, and aren’t surprises wonderful?

Don’t forget Memorial Day – So many unforgettable people who work every single ay to keep us safe and free. And all those who gave their lives, it’s our undying thanks for what they did for us.

PAINLESS UPDATE: The paperback of FLASHPOINT, the 27th and last of my FBI thriller series, is out in July. THE HEIR OF WHITESTONE, a historical romance/mystery/comedy set in 1842 England, will be published next February. I’m writing the second historical right now. Think of two young detectives, one of them a wizard. Think of the ancient Druids and what can happen when a wizard meets a witch in the Black Forest.

This is a beautiful time of year, full of promise, full of life ready to burst out and envelop us.

So, take a deep breath, slow down your heart, ease off the stress of the day and think about how awesome this lovely earth is, particularly now at the beginning of summer.
