Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to Everyone:

My last newsletter for 2011. I will not remark upon the supersonic passing of the past twelve months --- I mean, is there anything I can do about it now? I can hear all of you saying, move along, CC, tell us something moving, maybe something spiritually uplifting, something about all the Christmas presents you wrapped by the middle of October, how you've got a huge smile on your face, ready for the third Christmas party tonight. Actually tonight, we're the dessert/champagne/Christmas carol house for all our neighbors -- I play the piano and everyone sings, we even have sheet music) We also have homemade boxed cookies for everyone to take home. Everything, house and people and cats, sparkle.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone:

What did I say? Thanksgiving? Now it seems like the day after Halloween, all the stores rev up for Christmas. If you want to find turkey napkins, for example, good luck. So it's now like Thanksgiving is tucked in as an afterthought and simply an excuse for stores to add another whoppo sale. I'm starting to think that every Friday is a Black Friday in November.

Happy August:

My husband and I visited Kauai the beginning of the month. As most of you know, about 80% of Kauai is inaccessible, so a helicopter ride is a must. We did the "open door" helicopter, which means you're hanging out there and can almost reach out and touch the Weeping Wall of Waialeala (a HUGE rock wall with a dozen waterfalls running down it set at the end of this gnarly green canyon). Everything is tropical Irish green, except for Waimea Canyon, of course (Grand Canyon Jr.) The only thing about the open door ride is that you have to wear a jacket, you can't wear sandals or earrings, or bring a camera that isn't fastened to your wrist, so that meant the iPhone was grounded. The ride was cool (both meanings), but to be honest here, you step out looking like Phyllis Diller, and while you're wondering how you're going to solve the rat's nest problem, there's this pilot who wants to take your photo -- excuse me? You want to terrify the nation? As for ziplining, it's a complete blast. We did a seven-stop cruise through rain forests, not screaming fast, but you know you're moving.

Has anyone ever been to the Outer Banks, North Carolina (Duck, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, Orcacoke, Cape Hatteras) for a week? Surrounded by 35 family members? We just got home late this past weekend, and it was a total blast. A different family cooked each night with the result that there was so much food we could have sent a care package to every mother-in-law in the country. No one maimed anyone else, and everyone got sunburned and pruned spending so much time in the pool. We visited all the shops and merchants

Happy Beginning of Summer:

I've written umpteen newsletters over the years but I've always posted them only on my web site. It finally occurred to me (duh) that not everyone automatically comes to my web site every single month to see what's going on. (Hard to believe, I know.) So, I'm now going to send out my newsletters to everyone on my mailing list every month. This May newsletter is longer than most since so many things have happened. Plus, the sucker's late -- sorry about that.

We just got back from Las Vegas. I asked people what Las Vegas meant on my Facebook page and the very first answer was the best: Las Vegas is "lost wages." The real meaning is pretty cool -- meadow by the water. Huh? So maybe it's lost wages by the water. Evidently in the 19th century there were artesian wells in the area where people wanted to swim, but couldn't since the water was beneath the surface. While betting on if the water would ever break ground, they invented craps ... kinda hard on a rock, and they eventually lost everything.

Who among you has let green beer pass your lips? Today, having lunch at Cliff House (right on the ocean in San Francisco's west coast) I saw lots of guys drinking green beer and I wondered, do they use nasty food coloring? Do they pour in some Scope and swish it around? Whatever, all those partaking were grinning, and, possibly, they had very nice breath.

Happy February:

Tomorrow I'm flying to Buenos Aires to meet my other half who's been playng around near the anartic for the past two weeks. I've never been to Argentina before. It is high summer, which is a refreshing switch -- it will be in the 80's, 90's, the weather forecast keeps changing. Then we fly to Iguassu Falls (between Brazil and Argentina), twenty-six miles of spectacular falls that supposedly leave Niagara in the dust. We'll see.
